Climate-friendly alternatives: barbecuing without beef and cheese
Still, in many places the temperatures are warm enough to enjoy the days and evenings outside. Barbecues are part of nice summer days for many Germans. For many Germans, alternative grilling with vegetables and tofu has become more popular in recent years. This not only has benefits for the health, but also for the environment.

For the sake of the environment, avoid beef and cheese
For most Germans, the summer also includes a social get-together with a barbecue. The environment should not be neglected. On grilled food, which has a bad eco-balance, should be better avoided. Experts from TÜV Rheinland have found in an investigation that the choice of food to be grilled is more important to the environment than the choice of grilling technology. Animal products pollute the environment far more than vegetables over the entire life cycle. According to the experts, around 18 percent of climate-damaging emissions can be avoided if you refrain from beef and grilled cheese.

Vegetables as a climate-friendly alternative
Climate-friendly alternatives are, according to the TÜV Rheinland vegetables such as grilled corn or sausages and pork. They calculated the life cycle assessment of the products on the basis of their entire life cycle, such as production, transport and recycling. "Even if the investigation is a bit dated, conscious shopping benefits the environment. Anyone who refrains from grilling cheese and beef can easily do good things for the environment, "says Ralf Martin Müller, Project Manager for Life Cycle Assessment at TÜV Rheinland, in a press release. Almost 95 percent of the resulting climate-relevant emissions are therefore caused by the grilled food. Anyone who relies on vegetarian food, according to nutrition experts also good for his health. On average, people who eat vegetarian or vegan are less likely to be overweight or obese and, because of their low-fat and low-cholesterol diet, are at a reduced risk for lifestyle diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes mellitus.
