Readiness for organ donation increases
Willingness in the population for organ donation increases
08/12/2011
The parliamentary groups have agreed on a new regulation in the organ donation question. If the so-called decision-making solution comes into force, a considerably higher willingness to donate can be expected. This was confirmed by recently published survey results of the Bertelsmann Stiftung and the Barmer GEK.
Bundestag factions agree on compromise
On 24 November, the Bundestag factions in the Bundestag agreed with the Federal Minister of Health on a compromise, which states that every citizen should give his consent or refusal to donate organs after death. This could be done, for example, with the issue of health cards.
Two-thirds of the respondents would be willing to donate organs
Bertelsmann Stiftung and Barmer GEK conducted a representative survey in April and May 2011. A total of 1,778 people were questioned in writing about their organ donation readiness and other topics. 69 percent of the interviewees said that it would be assumed that the compromise of the Bundestag faction on organ donation would increase the general willingness to donate. In all likelihood, 66 percent of respondents would actually consent to an organ donation. Of the respondents who do not yet have an organ donor card, 60 percent would likely or certainly agree to donate organs.
Dr. Brigitte Mohn, board member of the Bertelsmann Foundation, and dr. Christoph Straub, CEO of BARMER GEK, report: „The approval values are extremely positive. "Now large-scale education campaigns of the federal government are required, dust continues.Hope to hope that expresses the positive signal of this survey in real donor numbers, because according to the German Foundation for Organ Transplantation about 12,000 people are waiting for In 2010, 1296 people donated organs after their death.
