Infections can be dangerous

Campylobacter can cause infections, which include symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, headache, muscle and joint pain.

The complaints usually resolve themselves after several days.

In rare cases, the complication of campylobacteriosis is Guillain-Barré syndrome, a disease of the nervous system.

In immunocompromised patients, infants and seniors, a chronic course threatens and the infection can at worst take life-threatening proportions.

Sick people can infect other people

Diseased people should be careful, as they can infect others. As the Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA) explains on its portal "Infektionsschutz.de" is, "a human-to-human infection via a smear infection", possible.

"In the process, the pathogen reaches the smallest traces of stool remnants of a patient via soiled hands in the mouth," say the experts.

In the case of illness, therefore, care should be taken to ensure optimal hand hygiene.

"Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after using the toilet," explains the BZgA.

And: "sufferers should not prepare food for others."

If symptoms persist, seek medical attention

Anyone who has eaten the eggs affected by the recall and develops severe, persistent symptoms should seek medical help and point out a possible Campylobacter infection, recommends Geflügelhof Ertl KG.

"To go without preventive symptoms in medical treatment, does not make sense," it says in the message.

"After the eggs are cooked through (for example, bake) there is no health risk for you."

Customers who have purchased the corresponding item can return it for a refund of the purchase price without presenting the receipt in their shops. (Ad)
