To abstain from caffeine and nicotine in PMS syndrome
01.03.2012
Headaches, mood swings, depressive moods, chest tightness, and sleep disorders are among the more unpleasant symptoms that women with PMS syndrome suffer from. As the German society for gynecology and obstetrics (DGGG) and the professional association of the gynecologists (BVF) report, the renouncement of coffee, Niktotin, Cola drinks, tea, alcohol and salt could alleviate the unpleasant complaints.
Low-fat and vitamin-rich diet helps with PMS syndrome
Women who suffer from premenstrual syndrome (PMS syndrome) can alleviate their symptoms by abstaining from certain foods during the period, DGGG and BVF report. Coffee, nicotine, cola, tea, alcohol and salt may aggravate the symptoms and should therefore be avoided especially in the two weeks before the onset of the menstrual period. Tension in the chest could be reduced by the fact that people take less liquid than usual.
According to experts, a low-fat and vitamin-rich diet would be helpful. High-fat fish and foods containing calcium, vitamin D and vitamin B6 reduce mood swings, digestive and appetite disorders, skin blemishes or water retention. Especially in the second half of the cycle, women should be careful to get enough sleep, take regular breaks and relaxation periods, reduce stress, and do sports three times a week. The experts also advise to warm baths, which help to relax the muscles.
Anyone who suffers from the PSM syndrome can also take natural remedies with natural ingredients such as chaste tree, black cohosh, St. John's wort or lemon balm, advises BVF. The remedies have an antispasmodic and relaxing effect. (Ag)
