„Integrative medicine is about bringing the body back into balance. This also applies to a cold. Here the body's defenses are weakened. The herbal medicine knows the power of natural means to bring the body back into balance before conventional medicine and more expensive remedies are tackled“, says Dr. med. Ralf Heinrich, Head of the Thera Clinic for Integrative Medicine in Berlin. This includes the prevention of simple oil from the kitchen: The Russian folk medicine uses it to prevent colds. If you wash your mouth with sunflower oil, you want to tackle headaches, bleeding gums or colds with inflammation of the frontal and paranasal sinuses. Heinrich refers here to phytotherapy for colds: In herbal medicine is sea buckthorn, more so than lemon, as a supplier of vitamin C. In addition, vitamin E, beta carotene and vitamins of the B group help against stress and fatigue. Even teas from rose hip, mullein or elderflower, linden, and mallow flowers can linden complaints.
Water is the most natural food and can develop healing power in two ways: cold and warm. A large glass before sleep stimulates the autonomic nervous system around the stomach, dilates the vessels and generates heat. A warm foot bath with lavender or rosemary stimulates blood circulation and supports the immune system. The goal is to sweat the body. Help: Jaborandi leaves, lime blossom, elderflower. For heat is also a spice responsible: ginger. Traditional Chinese medicine knows about the useful pungent substances of ginger tea, but also about cumin and coriander. They promote the circulation of the nasal mucous membranes, act sweat-inducing and can reduce fever. Meadowsweet and willow bark should also help against fever, pain and inflammation of colds. Hot drinks with fever are teas from elderflower, lime blossom or cinchona bark. Echinacea, Thuja, Eupatorium, Chamomile are designed to fend off common cold viruses, and herbs have also been used to fight off coughs and sore throats: arnica, marshmallow, gentian, chamomile and sage help the throat. Phytotherapy provides additional remedies for mild cough (mullein, Icelandic moss, thyme, ivy, marshmallow) or severe cough (meadow wrench, forest wrench, pimpinelle, anise, soapwort).
Heinrich: „We understand the human being in a biological balance. It is disturbed by a cold. We want to win her back. Often enough to naturally stimulate and strengthen the body's defenses to make the body fit for colds and coughing.“ (Pm)
