However, anyone who disregards the basic rules of hygiene in dealing with the small plastic trays risks an eye infection that, in the worst case, can permanently impair their eyesight.
1st rule: wash hands
Before putting the lenses in the eye or removing them from the eye, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and dry them with a clean towel to prevent germs from getting on the contact lens and into the eye.
2nd rule: gentle mechanical cleaning
Deposits accumulate on the plastic of the contact lenses during wear. After removal, the lens is therefore wetted with a cleaning agent and freed by gentle rubbing with the fingertips of the deposits.
3rd rule: disinfection
After cleaning, the lens is rinsed off and stored overnight in a disinfectant solution. Because not only deposits must be removed, it must also be ensured that no pathogens can implant themselves in the material of the contact lens. The disinfectant is rinsed with a saline solution before inserting the lenses, so that the eye is not irritated.
4th rule: observe care instructions
Each pack of contact lenses is accompanied by a care instructions from the manufacturer, which is exactly tailored to the material of the contact lenses. It is recommended that you follow these instructions carefully.
5. Rule: Hygienic containers
The contact lens sockets must also be disinfected regularly. Every three to six months, the contact lens containers should also be replaced. (Sb)
