Beach volleyball enjoys a relatively high popularity among recreational athletes in the summertime. According to the sports physician Professor Ingo Froböse of the German Sport University Cologne, this sport shows different positive effects on health. On the one hand, for example, the speed of action is increased and on the other hand, the condition improves at the same time, reports the news agency „dpa“ citing the expert.
It is not difficult to recognize beach volleyball players and players, that the sweaty sport improves fitness, explains the Cologne sports physician. Especially stamina and speed are trained according to Froböse in this sport. Overall, beach volleyball offers ideal full-body and endurance training. Certain caution should be exercised in this mostly outdoor exercise, however, to avoid overloading.
Do not overwhelm the body
According to Professor Froböse, speeding for the ball as well as short sprints and jumps in the sand demand extra strength. Due to the sand, the course is made even more difficult, so that much more power is needed for the start than in a sprint on solid ground, reports Froböse. At the same time, the players train their stamina, because they often play for hours with the other players, the sports physician continues. However, outdoor sports also involve risks. Especially at high temperatures and when playing in the sun some athletes would tend to overwhelm their body. Regular breaks and a lot of drinking are important here. In addition, Froböse advises to protect the skin with sunscreen and to wear a sunscreen for the head. Because otherwise sunburn, heat stroke or even a heat collapse are possible consequences. (Fp)
