From a clinic in North Rhine-Westphalia Herne the body of a deceased baby has disappeared in an unexplained way. The parents are appalled, the police have started the search and the hospital is in need of explanation. Actually, the preemies who died last week should have been buried on Friday, according to media reports. However, the corpse was not at his designated place in the morgue.

After an emergency operation, the preemie passed away last Tuesday in the Marienhospital in Herne. As the management of the hospital opposite the „West German Allgemeine Zeitung“ (WAZ) explained, the girl was previously moved from Wuppertal to Herne in the pediatric surgery. However, the subsequent surgery did not survive the preemie. According to the director of the clinic, Theo Freitag, the child was wrapped up in a cloth by a nurse - as usual in such cases - and placed in a bed together with a teddy bear and taken to the morgue. This was a locked room, with the key at the gate of the clinic. So how could the baby's corpse disappear from the morgue? „completely uncertain“, The WAZ quotes the clinic manager.

Prosecutor's office has opened investigations
Noticed was the absence of the corpse when the undertaker wanted to pick it up for a funeral on Friday. There was no body in the bed. According to media reports, the parents were already waiting for the funeral at the cemetery in Wuppertal. Their outrage is therefore easy to understand. Also the public prosecutor's office had initiated investigations for possible disturbance of the dead peace.
