Almost 1,400 swine flu infections in India

In India, tens of thousands of people have been infected with the flu virus H1N1 (swine flu) in recent weeks, and almost 1,400 people have died as a result. Authorities are increasingly concerned about the proliferation of swine flu and the public is urged to seek immediate medical attention at the first signs of infection.
After 51 other people died as a result of the swine flu, the death toll in India has risen to a total of 1,370, reports the news agency „PTI“ (Press Trust of India). Altogether 25,190 infections with the influenza virus H1N1 have been reported so far. According to the Department of Health, the western state of Gujarat had the highest number of deaths (322).
Particularly strong spread of swine flu in individual regions
Individual cities and regions are currently experiencing an extreme increase in swine flu infections. For example, reported „Focus Online“ from the city of Nagpur, where, according to the local clinic director, 674 patients were tested positive for the swine flu. „The chances of survival are 88 percent, 73 patients have died so far“, the news magazine quotes the physician.
Measures to curb swine flu
In the hospital of the city of Nagpur special switches for the flu patients have been set up to allow faster treatment. The signs of swine flu infection include fever, cough, headache and body aches, which are similar to those of other flu infections.
