Doctor administered pregnant women blood thinner
According to the indictment, a doctor administered a blood anticoagulant drug to a pregnant woman and now has to answer for it before the district court of Coburg.
A 41-year-old doctor from the Coburg area is accused of deliberately administering the blood thinner "Marcumar" to a pregnant woman in order to prevent the birth of a child. Since Monday, the physician has to answer before the Coburg district court.
Because of attempted murder and dangerous bodily injury since Monday a physician must answer in court. If the doctor is convicted, he faces not only the loss of a medical license, but also a long-term prison sentence. At the start of the trial, the accused dismissed all allegations.
The doctor is accused of having given a nurse since late 2006, the blood-thinning medicine Marcumar several times to achieve a termination of the pregnancy. The married doctor had a relationship with the nurse. In order to prevent his wife from hearing about this secret affair, the defendant wanted to offer the victims money for a termination of pregnancy. But the nurse categorically refused abortion, according to the indictment. The indictment now alleges that the doctor secretly added medicines to the pregnant woman to thicken the blood in the tea. In addition, the doctor of the injured advised to drink as much of the tea as it would have a positive effect on the pregnancy. Although the nurse had wondered that the tea had a bitter aftertaste, but the injured allegedly trusted the doctor.
In 2007, the woman complained of gum and nose bleeding and sought out a clinic for that reason. At a blood test then the blood-thinning drug was detected. These drugs have significantly disrupted the blood clotting of the pregnant woman. The subsequent course of the pregnancy then proceeded without further complications and the former lover gave birth to a healthy child. First, four days were scheduled at the district court of Coburg. The physician denies any involvement. A verdict is expected in early November.
Marcumar is used to inhibit blood clotting. The medicine is used in the context of thrombosis prophylaxis, after the implantation of artificial heart valves, heart support systems or in some variants of cardiac arrhythmias to prevent the formation of thrombosis. (sb, 19.10.2010)
