AOK report shows changes in sick leave

08/28/2014

Last year, the AOK Nordost recorded a slightly higher sickness rate of insured employees in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In Berlin, on the other hand, the number of sick leave fell from 5.2 to 5.1 percent in 2013 compared to the previous year, according to the results of the current absence report from the Scientific Institute of the AOK (WIdO)..

From 5.3 percent in 2012 to 5.4 percent in 2013, the sick leave rate among the insured employees of AOK Nordost in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has increased. The insured were on sick leave for an average of 19.7 days per year. The longest average sick leave period was 26.5 hours of sick leave per case and was due to mental illness. Also cardiovascular diseases caused relatively long sick leave (23.4 days off sick leave). The same applies to injuries (20.1 days off sick) and musculoskeletal disorders (19.1 days off sick). Respiratory diseases were associated on average with sick leave of 8.4 days duration.

Mental illnesses with the longest sick leave period
According to the results of the absences report, the average length of sick leave for AOK-insured employees in Berlin was 18.6 days in 2013. Here, too, mental illnesses followed on average with the longest sick leave (22.9 days off work per case) injuries at 19.2 days, heart disease at 18.6 days and musculoskeletal disease at 16.3 days, according to the AOK Northeast News. The sick leave period for respiratory diseases averaged 7.2 days and for digestive diseases seven days.

Respiratory diseases most common cause of disability
However, the absenteeism report shows a different picture in the incapacity cases in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern than in the sick leave. Here, for example, in Berlin the diseases of the respiratory system took the largest share with 25.6 percent. „This is followed by musculoskeletal disorders at 15 percent, digestive disorders at 9.3 and injuries at 6.4 percent“, reports the AOK Northeast. The proportion of mental illnesses, however, was only 5.7 percent, and cardiovascular diseases accounted for only 3.6 percent of incapacity cases. (Fp)
