AOK IKK Südwest Krankenkassenfusion approved

The planned merger of the Allgemeine Ortskrankenkassen AOK Saarland, AOK Rheinland-Pfalz and the Innungskasse IKK Südwest was officially confirmed and approved by the Bundeskartellamt today. From three health insurance companies arises „AOK IKK Southwest“. The new health insurance will be headquartered in Eisenberg. There was last the seat of the AOK Rhineland-Palatinate.
The final formation will take place on the first of October 2011. For the insured of the three individual health insurance initially nothing changes. The new cash cards will be delivered gradually after the merger. Even at the health services and offers will change according to the health insurance fund. At present, nothing is known about downsizing or further structural changes.
Already last year, a spokesman for the AOK Saarland emphasized that the merger does not happen from a financial emergency situation, but all three partners hope for an improved positioning in the health insurance market. As a result of the merger, the AOK IKK Südwest has around 1.9 million members and will be one of the top 15 on the cash market in Germany in the future. (Sb)
