Billing fraud of a midwife from Darmstadt in 183 cases?
For years, midwives have complained of an increase in their insurance costs, which makes their professional practice in many areas massively difficult. A midwife from Darmstadt has apparently found a way to supplement their income by unlawful billing significantly. According to the news agency "dpa", the Attorney General of Frankfurt accuses the midwife of billing services that have never been provided in 183 cases.

Overall, the 47-year-old midwife from Darmstadt over the years have stolen € 160,000, so the charge of the prosecutor. On Monday, charges were brought to Darmstadt district court against the midwife, reports the "dpa". The billed services were apparently never provided by the woman and the statutory health insurance has caused a considerable damage.

Abuse of patient data
According to investigators, the midwife used patient records from a hospital where she worked to charge for other services through her own practice, reports the dpa. However, the insured women did not receive any of the billed services from the midwife. The public prosecutor's office has investigated the case for almost five years after a health insurance company was suspected in 2010. (Fp)
