Alcohol prolongs survival in breast cancer

Alcohol in breast cancer: For a long time, the motto was that alcohol in breast tumors is rather unfavorable and may even favor their development. A recent study sheds new light on this thesis.

A glass of wine seems to have a positive effect on the life of those affected. But here too: the „dose“ does it. The evaluation of the Collaborate Breast Cancer Study (CBCS), a large US cohort study involving over 23,000 breast cancer patients, found that women with breast cancer who drink moderate to moderate alcohol live longer.

The death rate was lowest for women consuming 30 to 60 g of alcohol per week, after which it rose again slightly. Nevertheless, this should not tempt cancer patients to recommend alcohol consumption because of other risks, according to the scientists. They also suggest that the situation with estrogen receptor-positive and -negative tumors may be different. (Pm)
