Up to ten milligrams of alcohol per liter of coke
After Muslims have already speculated in several Internet forums about whether Coke should be combined with their religious rules, it is now official: Coke contains small amounts of alcohol. Dye in cola may be carcinogenic?
The colourant 4-MEI of Cola drink from Coca Cola may be carcinogenic. The California Health Authority „OEHHA“ found out in a test with laboratory mice that the administration of the substance has an increased incidence of lung cancer. Coca-Cola, however, disagrees. According to the group there are no studies that would provide evidence that 4-MEI can cause cancer in humans. In addition, a coke consumer would need to consume about 2,900 cans of the beverage daily for over 70 years to reach the levels that the mice received. 4-MEI is included in the Cola's coloring caramel.
The group has the dye producer „asked“, to change the production accordingly so that the 4-MEI content is reduced. Otherwise Coca-Cola would have had to apply warnings in California. (Ag)
