Pregnancy sickness in women is a good sign
Many expectant mothers, the day is spoiled by violent nausea in the early morning. About four out of five women suffer from morning sickness. Although this is unpleasant, but suggests that the pregnancy is rather without complications.

Pregnant women with violent morning sickness always get girls?
Despite the great anticipation of the offspring, the day of many pregnant women is often clouded early by nausea and vomiting. Some people assume that morning sickness is a sign of a girl to be expected. However, this assumption is usually not correct, although according to experts in studies there are indications of an accumulation of female babies after a pregnancy with severe morning sickness. And even if the pregnancy sickness is still so unpleasant, but it is also a good sign, as scientists report.

For expectant mothers, the day is often clouded by violent nausea early in the morning. That's why they do not have to worry, on the contrary: the morning sickness is a good sign. Pregnant women who suffer from it have a lower risk of miscarriage. (Image: highwaystarz / fotolia.com)

Expectant mothers with severe nausea rarely suffer miscarriages
According to health experts, it is still unclear why nausea and vomiting occur in some expectant mothers and not in others. As a reason, among other hormonal changes in the female body are suspected. The complaints usually disappear from the fourth month. In addition, psychosocial factors such as stress, anxiety and strife could influence the duration and severity of vomiting.

But they do not have to worry about that. For pregnant women with severe nausea and vomiting rarely suffer from miscarriages, as a recent study shows, which was published in the journal "JAMA Internal Medicine".

Now there is evidence for suspected assumptions
The US researchers led by epidemiologist Enrique Schisterman of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda had interviewed nearly 800 women about nausea and vomiting. It showed that those subjects who suffered from morning sickness were between 50 and 75 percent less at risk of losing their baby.

"There is a common belief that nausea indicates a healthy pregnancy, but there was not much high-quality evidence," said Stefanie N. Hinkle of the US National Institutes of Health in a Science Alert message. Their study confirms that "there is a protective link between nausea and vomiting and a lower risk of miscarriage.".

Nausea is "more of a good sign"
German experts also rate the results positively. According to a report of the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" (SZ), Franz Kainer, chief physician of the Department of Obstetrics and Prenatal Medicine at the Hallerwiese Clinic in Nuremberg said: "This study impressively shows that nausea is more of a good sign for expectant mothers."

The US scientists - in contrast to previous studies - the women already recorded in the first weeks of pregnancy and already discovered the positive relationship. "That will certainly take us further," said Ioannis Mylonas, Head of Infectiology of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.

Causes are not clear
About four out of five women in the first trimester of pregnancy report nausea and vomiting. For some, the annoying symptoms persist for much longer. Although the causes are not well understood, it is well known that the gastrointestinal tract becomes sluggish due to the confused hormone balance. "So the porridge can accumulate and lead to nausea," said the gynecologist Mylonas. But other factors, such as the bacterium Helicobacter pylori can contribute to the unwanted discomfort in affected pregnant women.

Combat nausea with natural remedies
Expectant mothers are often bad in the morning, they should better not rely on medication, according to health experts. For often, pregnancy sickness remedies are hardly investigated. It is better if women approach the nausea naturally during pregnancy. As a home remedy for nausea offers, among other things, the Wunderknolle ginger - whether as tea, in the food or in tablet form.

In addition, pregnant women are advised to take smaller meals throughout the day. Intense odors should be avoided. Otherwise, women are likely to eat what they have an appetite for. "That may be a piece of Black Forest cake," says Mylonas. He said: "It is only when there is a high level of suffering that medicines come into question." In very bad cases, when the pregnant women can no longer hold any fluids in their body, only the way to the hospital remains. (Ad)
