Obesity More and more ten-year-olds are obese
Obesity is much more prevalent among ten-year-olds in Brandenburg today than it was ten years ago. This is clear from the answer to a Parliamentary question. Positive: There are now a few times overweight among the freshmen.
More obese tenth graders
According to the answer to a parliamentary question by Minister of Health Diana Golze (left), obesity among the tenth graders in Brandenburg is now more common than it was ten years ago. Accordingly, the proportion of obese girls in the years from 2005 to 2014 increased from seven to almost nine percent and among boys from about seven to now about ten percent. In recent decades, the number of children with obesity has dramatically increased in many countries around the world, an international research team reported earlier this year.
Fewer school-freshmen with a strong overweight
However, there are also positive reports from Brandenburg. Compared to ten years ago, school beginners there are less affected by obesity today. Since 2004, the proportion of girls with obesity has dropped from around five percent to around four percent, and from four to around three percent in boys. According to the ministry, this is the result of school investigations. However, it was said that there was no known knowledge about the causes of the development. For years, health experts have been trying to counteract the problem of overweight - especially among children and adolescents.
Less sugar and more sports
In addition to diet change, which uses less fat and less sugar, most professionals generally recommend more exercise for children to prevent obesity. Many seriously overweight children have diseases that are usually only adults: type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, lipid metabolism disorders and joint problems. Obesity can cause gout or fatty liver in childhood. In adulthood, adipose children are also more at risk of heart attack or stroke. (Ad)
