Slimming Brown rice instead of white makes you leaner
Why you should better resort to the brown rice variety
Rice is not only popular in Asian countries, also in Germany, the Far Eastern side dish is often on the table. The tasty grains are available in numerous varieties - from basmati to jasmine and risotto to wholemeal. But do all varieties have the same ingredients? No, say Japanese researchers. They found out in a nutritional study that brown rice leads to more weight loss than the white varieties.
A research group from Nagoya Women's University, Kagawa Nutrition University and the University of Niigata Prefecture examined whether wholegrain or natural rice is better for weight loss than white rice such as basmati or jasmine as a result of global obesity gains. In fact, it was found that the volunteers who ate brown rice averaged at least three kilos more than the group eating white rice varieties. The study results were recently published in the journal "Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism".

The researchers divided 437 employees of a Japanese factory into two groups. One group received brown rice at their daily meal in the canteen and the other group received white rice. In regular routine examinations, the weight of the employees was checked. Within a year, the employees who ate the brown rice lost an average of three kilograms of body weight more than the group that ate white rice. The research group concludes that brown rice is better at reducing obesity than whites.
Dietary fiber ensures longer saturation
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 100 grams of cooked white rice contains 130 kilocalories versus 123 kilocalories of brown varieties. Much more crucial, however, is that the natural varieties contain significantly more fiber. White cooked rice contains only 0.4 grams of fiber, whereas brown rice with 1.6 grams can have four times as much fiber. The fiber causes a longer-lasting satiety and also help to lower blood sugar, or not to increase so strong, whereby the body gets less signals to store fat.
Brown rice is ahead
While rice is generally good for a healthy diet, overall, there is much to suggest that brown rice seems to be the healthier option. If you like white rice and want to lose weight, you should think about switching to the brown varieties. Also, who plans a rice diet or a traditional Chinese medicine known rice cure, should resort to the wholegrain variant, because in addition to the mentioned fiber, the brown varieties also contain more potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron.
