Fine dust - formation

Particulates are the smallest particles that are carried by the air. Depending on local conditions, this dust can come from natural or man-made sources. Natural sources include, for example, erosion resulting rock dust, fungal spores, pollen, sea salt, ash from volcanic eruptions or carbon compounds from bush and forest fires. For example, man-made sources include erosion from agriculture and livestock, factory fumes, wood-fired heating, and open fireplaces. Even in confined spaces, particulate matter can be produced, for example, by tobacco smoke or by laser printers and copiers.

Health hazards due to particulate matter pollution

Numerous studies have proven that particulate matter pollution poses a high health risk. Fine dust massively increases the risk of cancer as well as the risk of atherosclerosis (arteriosclerosis) and diseases of the lungs. In addition, there is a high risk of heart attack through particulate matter. (Vb)
