The groin / inguinal region

The groin / inguinal region /
The inguinal region (inguinal region) forms the transition between abdomen and thigh on both sides, whereby it forms a superficial part of the abdominal wall. The inguinal region is bounded at the top by an imaginary connecting line between the two iliac crests, to the middle or obliquely below through the straight abdominal muscle and the pubic region. In the area of the groin, in addition to the inguinal ligament, which connects the ilium with the pubic bone, there are also various muscles, such as the external oblique muscle, or the cremaster muscle. In addition, there are the inguinal lymph nodes, various nerve tracts (for example iliac nerves) and the inguinal canal. In the inguinal canal, the spermatic cord runs among other things in men and in women the mother ligament. Externally visible lies at the bottom of the groin the so-called inguinal groove (also groin), which forms the border in the direction of the thigh. Between the two bars is the so-called pubic area, the regio pubica.

Various impairments can occur in the groin area, where groin pain is usually the leading symptom. The inguinal hernia or inguinal hernia is the most well-known symptoms here. This affects more men and can cause a visible swelling in the groin area in addition to the pain. Through the hernia portal, viscera from the abdomen can penetrate into the inguinal canal and thereby become trapped, which in the worst case can lead to life-threatening complications and require surgical intervention. Occasionally, however, the hernia is completely unremarkable - without major pain, swelling or other discomfort. In addition, pain in the groin area may be caused by functional impairments of the musculoskeletal system, damage to the nerve tracts or other diseases such as, for example, a testicle inflammation in men. A medical check is therefore generally advised. (Fp)
