The diagnosis describes the state of health or the disease status of a person. The diagnosis (diagnosis) is based on the history of the patient, present symptoms, medical examinations (listening, palpation, movement tests, etc.) and other special diagnostic methods (blood tests, x-rays, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, Biopsies, etc.) analyzes the complaints of those affected. Ideally, this can clearly determine which disease plagues the patient and it can be made a correspondingly secure diagnosis.

However, the diagnosis often complicates and especially people with rare diseases often undergo a regular odyssey of visits to the doctor before they receive an accurate diagnosis. A thorough anamnesis (recording the history of the disease) is an important instrument for the identification of existing diseases, especially in such complex diagnoses. However, there is often very little time left for the discussion between doctor and patient in everyday practice. Thus, relationships between different symptoms may not be recognized, which could also give offenses for the differential diagnosis (exclusion of other diseases with similar symptoms). Worst case is a misdiagnosis. The importance of the medical history for the further course of the diagnosis should therefore by no means be underestimated, even if it alone is usually not sufficient to make a reliable diagnosis.
