The cecum is a kind of bulge at the transition between the large and small intestine, which ends in the so-called worm appendage (appendix). For most people, the cecum is known not because of its functions for the organism, but because of the symptoms of appendicitis. However, this is actually an inflammation of the appendix. Massive abdominal pain, often accompanied by loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting are typical complaints here. In the worst case threatens a life-threatening appendectomy.
