The BKK für Heilberufe existed as a statutory health insurance from 1996 to the end of 2011 and was subsequently - after failed attempts at merging - closed by the Federal Insurance Office. An economic operation of the BKK for health professions could no longer be portrayed in view of the double-digit million deficit incurred over several years. More than 100,000 insured had to seek a new statutory health insurance as a result of the closure.
