BKK - company health insurance
Company health insurance funds play a special role in the history of the German health care system and some of these health insurances existed long before the introduction of a statutory health insurance. Originally these special health insurance funds were limited to the circle of the employees of a company, which applies to today for approximately one third of the remaining company health insurance companies. However, many company health insurance funds are now accessible to all legally insured persons. In 2013, the BKK Dachverband e. V. as a political representation of interests of occupational health insurance in Germany founded, the 78 company health insurance funds (as of 2017) and four BKK regional associations.
