An international health insurance or travel health insurance is urgently required when traveling to countries outside the EU that have not concluded a social welfare agreement with Germany. The statutory health insurance covers the costs of an accident or illness only within the EU and in countries with which a social security agreement has been concluded. Also, for treatments, only a certain standard rate of cost is borne, which in individual cases can be significantly lower than is calculated in the respective country for the services. The international health insurance also ensures the return transport in case of emergency. (Fp)
