rip off
Rip-off is the colloquial term for methods, with which an enrichment takes place to the detriment of the customers. This need not necessarily be fraudulent behavior, but it may for example simply be an overpriced price related to the benefits and the production costs. In the medical field, for example, the sale of miracle drugs against any health problems is a rip-off model that has been known for centuries. Even with proven effective drugs is sometimes the allegation of rip-off in the room, because the price seems to disproportionately high, such as the introduction of the hepatitis C drug Sovaldi in 2014. To what extent these allegations are justified, remains in view of the enormous development costs, the drug companies have to raise, openly. In the sale of proven ineffective means and advertising promises that simply can not be met, the term rip-off is quite justified.
